disturbing study

After the initial buzz phase of adjusting to antidepressants, why do so many of us find that they don’t really do much good? Maybe because they don’t.

Here’s a disturbing study that finds almost no benefit to taking SSRIs in all but the most severely depressed patients. It’s interesting reading. Draw your own conclusions but it sounds like we’re being duped by the pharmaceutical industry. Imagine that. Don’t use this as an excuse to stop taking your meds. Consider it food for thought if you consider it at all.

I noticed this story on my British news feeds this morning. The link above is courtesy of HighBoldtage.

One obvious reason that antidepressants don’t “work” is the fact that like all drugs we build up a tolerance for them and we must keep raising the dose to get the effect – if any – of the drug.

When your doctor ups your dose he calls it “titrating.” But addicts are familiar with tolerance. It is common with drugs.

    Have a peaceful day,

If you're interested in reading a fairly detailed account of addiction and depression, Cracked Head Memoirs might be for you. It basically tells how it was and what happened. Writing it helped me go from active addiction to recovery yet again.
