After nearly a month of not weighing regularly I’ve decided to start back tracking my ups and downs in pounds. I’m not going to worry so much about the actual weight as the said ups and downs. Additionally I’m moving weigh-in day from Monday to Sunday for no particular reason.

  • 168 — 7/27/08
  • 168.2 — 7/20/08
  • 166.2 — 7/13/08
  • 168.2 — 7/6/08
  • 168.4 — 6/29/08
  • 169 — 6/22/08
  • 167.5 — 6/15/08 — I’ve found away to live with the fluctuating scales. I just take the numbers presented them and average them. I’m anal enough to enjoy such shit.
  • 167 — 6/08/08

(I’ve been forced to suspend this item until I can acquire some beam scales of discover somewhere I can weigh — same time, same place each week. The only expensive scales are scales that are arbitrary and inaccurate. I have just such an item. 5/12/08)

One of the many “lesser” challenges I deal with is my weight. It’s important to me for esteem reasons, and because of my family history of heart disease. I was born in 1962 and am about 5’8″ (unless I’ve started shrinking!). Two or three years ago I tipped the scales at over 200 pounds. When I started trying to do something about it, in the spring of 2007, I was at 193. By October I was down to 172. By the beginning of ’08 I was up to 181. For now, I’d like to get below 170. Ultimately, who knows?

My plan is simple, and probably the only one that ever works for anybody long-term. It can be summed up with eat less; exercise more. It’s not rocket science. I’ll record my weight here each Monday, at least in theory

  • 163.2 — 5/5/08 — apparently the Seroquel didn’t hurt.
  • 166 on4/28/08 – hard to figure. Walked faithfully. Ate right. Hmmm.
  • 166 on 4/21/08
  • 168 on 4/14/08
  • 169 on 4/7/08
  • 169.2 on 3/31/08 – this is where I wanted to be by June of last year. Still feels pretty good…
  • 172 on 3/24/08 — Replaced the battery in the scale. All these weights are suspect I’m afraid, but by less than a pound either way.
  • 171.2 on 3/17/08
  • 172.6 on 3/11/08
  • 175.8 on 3/3/08
  • 174.4 on 2/25/08
  • 177.6 on 2/18/08
  • 178.2 on 2/11/08
  • 179 on 2/3/08

If you're interested in reading a fairly detailed account of addiction and depression, Cracked Head Memoirs might be for you. It basically tells how it was and what happened. Writing it helped me go from active addiction to recovery yet again.
